Create your own custom-built Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis is a 2003 construction and management simulation video game that lets you create your own version of a dinosaur amusement park. Developed by Blue Tongue Entertainment, this theme park-building game is based on the 1993 Jurassic Park film series and features common business simulation gameplay mechanics. This demo version includes a brief tutorial, two missions, three types of dinosaurs, the Dinopedia, and open-ended simulation gameplay on the "Site B" mode.

Is Jurassic World Evolution like Operation Genesis?

Jurassic Park is an American science fiction media franchise—based on the 1990 science fiction novel written by Michael Crichton—that tells the story of a disastrous attempt to create a theme park of cloned dinosaurs. Its first film adaptation was released in 1993 and had garnered critical success, spawning a number of sequels that became successful, as well. Video games were also developed for the franchise and one of them is Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis.

The goal of the game is to ultimately reach a five-star rating for your park. You must construct hatcheries, fences, and food dispensers for the dinosaurs, and also cater to the needs of your park visitors with food kiosks, restrooms, and rest areas. You have to balance out the growth of the park by upgrading its security, making its attractions more popular, and keeping both dinosaurs and humans safe and happy inside your theme park.

While plagued with some problems—such as repetitive missions, clunky controls, and poor character AI—this game is still considered one of the best in the franchise. Thus, you can’t help but compare it to the 2018 Jurassic World Evolution game. Differences in graphics aside, the core gameplay is similar between the two—with some minor differences in the number of dinosaur species and missions available. Old fans of Operation Genesis will at least appreciate JWE’s visual and control upgrades.

A great classic

All in all, Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis has already been succeeded by other Jurassic Park park-building games but it doesn’t lose out to them by a large margin. The gameplay is still quite fun and innovative and brings back the nostalgia of the first film, thanks to its inclusion of the cast in the game’s story. This demo also showcases a bit of all the features you can expect without going overboard.
